NHS Scotland National Standards for Interpreting Project - 2nd Phase

Back to News

Elite Linguists is continuing our work to support NHS Health Scotland to develop national standards for interpreting for NHS Scotland. The second phase of the project starts in April 2011.

The first phase of the project saw a series of consultation with various stakeholders that took place between September and November 2010. Many thanks to those who have contributed. We then spent three months developing what is now called the Competency Framework for Interpreting, which will act as a set of standards to help improve the provision of interpreting services to patients who have preferred communication other than spoken English. NHS Health Scotland will be promoting this to all NHS Boards through a range of communication channels.

The second phase of the project starts in April 2011. Elite Linguists is developing a toolkit of resources to support the overarching Competency Framework. We are delighted to continue our involvement in this important development in public service interpreting.
